At Vanderbilt University, school officials became concerned with the increased pedestrian traffic across 21st Ave, which divides the two campuses. To solve the problem Phoenix worked with Wilson Architects and Carpenter Wright Engineers to connect the two campuses. Phoenix Design provided the electrical design for Vanderbilt’s 21st Ave Pedestrian Bridge and Carpenter Wright Engineers provided the structural design.
“We wanted an attractive structure that would complement the historic building on campus and fit into the overall campus theme,” said Edward Belbusti, the University’s architect.
This project was not only a success for Vanderbilt, it also received national recognition when the Bridge project was awarded the “Short Span Merit Award” by the National Steel Bridge Alliance.
