Meadows Regional Medical Center (MRMC) located in Vidalia, Georgia is a 65-bed acute care replacement hospital, including 32 med/surg beds, 8 ICU/CCU rooms, 12 progressive care rooms, 7 LDR and 6 antepartum/postpartum rooms, nursery, ED with 20 treatment rooms, 6 ORs, 6 PACU, 2 endoscopy/minor procedure rooms, central registration, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, outpatient infusion center and expanded cardiopulmonary testing and treatment areas. MRMC has incorporated LEAN principles into their existing Emergency department. Through the help of Georgia Tech’s Enterprise Innovation Institute, the hospital implemented action items for reducing needed times for patient admitting, patient treatment, and patient discharge of no-critical ED patients. The hospital intends to take the LEAN concepts implemented within the ED into other departments within the new hospital.One MPE design feature is the “attached” powerhouse containing three 400-ton centrifugal chillers, two 50 BHP steam boilers dedicated for humidification and sterilization purposes, two167 BHP heating hot water boilers, and two 1250 KVA emergency generators. The air handling systems were optimized by functional area and penthouse enclosed for extended life expectancy. The hospital operation personnel and Phoenix Design Group, Inc. maintained a close relationship throughout the design process, monitoring the development of the design and process all value engineering alternatives to maximize their ultimate satisfaction within the allowable budge constraints.
