Project Description

Baptist Memorial Hospital –Desoto provides healthcare services to the high-growth area of northern Mississippi. Phoenix provided the MPE design services for four major projects from 2006 to 2018. Anew 11-story 411,000 square foot tower expansion including 62,000 square feet of renovations was completed in 2006. Most recent Phoenix completed 40,000 square feet of a new ED expansion, and 15,000 square feet of renovation work in the existing Emergency Department. All work has been performed in conjunction with Earl Swensson Architects.

The 2006 expansion costing $112 million, including the provision of a new high visibility entrance in addition to the expanded healthcare services. The nursing floors are designed for 28 private rooms arranged in four 12-patient room pods. Each pod is designed for self-sufficiency by virtue of decentralized nursing stations and supplies. Nursing visibility was a high priority in the space arrangement. The new patient tower included a integrated emergency department with an expanded exam room provision over the previous ED include an adjacent pediatric ED with separate waiting room.

Prior to the 2006 expansion, Phoenix provide design services that included relocation and expansion of the existing 1988 powerhouse including the relocation of some existing equipment (boilers and chillers). The services of the existing hospital were maintained during this critical infrastructure upgrade. Working with the Baptist personnel and master plan, Phoenix was able to provide the future expansions including cooling, heating, emergency power, and other central services within the expanded/relocated powerhouse.
