Project Description

This 545,000 GSF facility is a family-centered care, replacement hospital with full range of expanded services including cardiology, emergency services, oncology, and surgery. There are 263 all private patient rooms, a five-story 11,000 square foot attached medical office building, two story 44,000 square foot cancer center, and a one story 27,000 behavioral health pavilion completing the project. The facility is the centerpiece of a 190-acre campus. Phoenix Design Group, Inc. was responsible for the complete HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection design, and construction administration. The facility exhibits a soothing, hospital-themed interior requiring close coordination between the Architectural Interior Design department and the MPE systems requirements. The high-end interior environment was achieved without a premium in construction cost. The building design utilized several innovated air-handling unit configurations which greatly minimized the mechanical room space requirements and provides for ready expansion with minimal invasion to existing systems. The central powerhouse included a 2100-ton central chiller plant, a 400 BHP steam plant, and 500 BHP hot water boilers. A separate 70-ton heat recovery chiller was incorporated to pre-heat domestic water. One innovated design feature was utilizing an “Ohio Special” boiler configuration which eliminated a 24/7 on-site boiler operator requirement.
